Hey Darklings,
So you are a creative and want to start going to events to sell your goods. Here are some tips that I use to find my events, and hopefully they can provide a starting point for you to start lining up your own. 1. The Google: What is your specialty? Search for it. If you are a witch artist then search 'witch craft shows' Specify using your area of where you live or where you would like to attend. Add things like 'in New York' or 'in Chicago' to zone in on those areas alone. Examples: 'Anime Convention in Washington, D.C.' or 'Craft Fairs in Arizona', 'Horror Cons in Michigan', 'Art Shows in NY', 'Sci-Fi/Fantasy events in IL' or 'Pagan Events in New Jersey'. Figure out where you want to go and what type of event would best fit the items you are trying to sell. 2. The Gram: Instagram is a great way to find events in your area. Use hashtags like #lishows #nyshows #nycalltoartists #witchartist etc to see if there are any of interest in your area. You can also check out my other post on submissions and publications using the hashtag method. Click here for the read. 3. El Fabook: Check for events on Facebook. Check events in your area via the search bar. Once you find one there is usually a "See All Events" button that can help find more in surrounding areas. 4. The Stalker Method: This is probably the best method I use. Do you have a favorite artists in your area? Did you use any of the previously listed methods and find vendors/artist alley lists at specific events? Use this to your advantage. Check the websites and social media accounts of these people. Usually they will have a post or area on their page that lists all their upcoming events and shows. Use that list to see if any of those events are still looking for artists or vendors. If they are not, always save the info for next year! Research the event alittle more, if it seems like a fit for you, apply or make a list so you can apply next time around. NOTE: Some of these events may have a mailing list. Subscribe to get up to date information on what they are doing or planning. 5. DIY Events Thats right! Do It Yourself! You and your art friend can come together and make a collective or create your own events. What? You dont have friends? No Problem! Put out your own call to artists and have them flock to you. Curate your own crew to get the ball rolling. Get a space and make it happen. Sometimes there are event spaces that will sponsor the event so it comes as little or no cost to you. 6. Attend other events Make friends. Sometimes they share info or you can find events that are promoting themselves there. (also part of the Stalker Method #4) Thats about it from me. Feel free to share some of your own ideas in the comment section below or post if you find this helpful. I am working on making more of these posts to help fellow creatives so please do tell me if this was worth your time. Take care and stay creative. Shout out to OneMoonBird for asking how to find events. <3

Hello Darklings,
As you know, COD CON at the College of DuPage was this past weekend. 3 days of vendors, artists, authors, and games. Alot of table top and D&D action going on. Friday I could not attend as my day job fucked up my schedule and had me working from 4pm to Midnight. I went home and did con prep, had 2 hours of sleep and was on my way to the college. Saturday: Pretty slow for me but I did meet a lot of cool people. Most of my con sales are from kids and there were like no kids at this event. The people here were ca Hi Lovelies,
Just a quick update. I am opening Giveaways to my mailing list subscribers so please add your email on the subscribe area to get info on those giveaways as well as discounts and art tips. It will be a while before I reopen any giveaways on Instagram because I have a lot of bullshit accounts following me just for that reason, then unfollowing. Which is fine, but I would rather give things to my genuine art family. I never used my mailing list before so its rather new to me. I will not spam you with crap, just Dz art goodies. I will not share your email with anyone else. I treasure you all too much for that. On another note, I am doing my first con in IL! It is also my first THREE DAY CON! *dies* I am so nervous but if you are around check me out at CODCON at the College of Dupage. If you have any art that you would like to snag from me there or would want me to draw, comment or dm me on any social media account of mine. Cant wait to see you there. Shout out to The Real Mike Wilson for manning the Dzhelasi table since I was sick. I am sorry for having you set up a pink table while I was gone. Here are some photos of the table set up he did for me while I was home miserable. He took great pics too. To MING for being amazing during the crazy at home set up for the past week or so, you are more creative than you let on. Thank you for everyone that stopped by the table, purchased goods, took a card, helped the tent that practically flew away as the wind was crazy yesterday, the people that helped take down the tent when Mike had enough of holding the dam thing down., and everyone that made the event possible. Dzhelasi will definitely be back for the next event we can do at Fort Hamilton. Thank you for your services, you guys are amazing. Good Evening Darklings! It's another day and another fundraiser! I love to donate to causes that mean something to me, something personal. With that, I had the pleasure of creating a piece for Domestic Violence Project in New York City. They will be having a fundraiser, DVP Fall Ball, October 6, 2016. My piece is untitled, 11x14 inches in frame, 8x10 without framing, but has a hell of a lot of meaning behind it and took a total of 9 and a half hours to complete. (Alot of details that might be hard to see in the photo above.) I wanted to take this time out to explain it to everyone. The piece was made on cold press 140lb. paper, with Ink, Watercolor, Acrylic, Metallic paints and markers. The birds were taken from inspiration by the species known as Grosbeak, and used a meaning for its representation from here: http://www.starstuffs.com/animal_totems/dictionary_of_birds.html "Grosbeak: Grosbeak teaches it is a time to heal wounds for mental and emotional harmony. Forgiveness and caring should be exercised as relationships are evaluated. She shows the fine balance of situations and connection to family. She aids in recognizing the spiritual and physical aspects of all things. Grosbeak teaches to awaken to surroundings in increase activity in life. Watch for movement in new experiences. She helps in recognizing your own voice and internal power. Grosbeak shows how to increase psychic perceptions while remaining balanced within the new awakening you are experiencing." One bird represents a mother, the other a child. The purple ribbon is for domestic violence awareness. It is tied to a key, which I drew scales of justice on to show the family being released from the "cage" which is held by a man's hand. It shows how someone can be held prisoner by a relationship. Sometimes people can be "jaded" into thinking the person abusing them, loves them, Hence the usage of green jade-like gems and heart shapes on the cage. The cage also has a short veil to show that sometimes these things aren't visible on the outside. The hand has no color because domestic violence has no color, anyone can be a victim. The color is mainly on the side of the birds to show freedom and an uplifting positive outlook on life and the future. The mother bird is looking away from the cage, while the child bird looks back. Sometimes its really hard on children and if they are too young, they might not understand why one parent leaves another, often leaving them with a haunting question of why that other parent is missing in their lives. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Domestic violence comes in various forms, not just physical, but there's emotional, mental, even financial abuse. You don't deserve it, no one does. No amount of it should be tolerated. Don't convince yourself that its ok, or that its not bad or not bad enough to leave. Take a stand against violence. So if you get a chance check it out their page and support a cause. Thanks for your time guys and as usual, Take care and Stay Creative. |
